Job Summary

This is a program management role - not a consulting, audit, or legal role.

We're not hiring someone to personally perform the compliance work. Engineering will implement technical changes. Outside counsel and internal stakeholders will own legal language, policies, and supporting documentation. Your responsibility is to ensure the entire compliance program moves forward efficiently, in the right sequence, and with the right level of accountability.

You will own the overall compliance roadmap, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, identify dependencies, remove blockers, and provide leadership with clear visibility into progress, risks, and next steps.

This role requires practical privacy compliance experience. The right candidate understands not only what needs to be done, but when it should be done, who should own it, and when work should be routed through legal counsel to avoid creating unnecessary risk. You understand how to build a practical, defensible compliance program appropriate for a growing technology company—not a Fortune 500 enterprise.

The program spans GDPR (EU), UK GDPR, PIPEDA (including Quebec Law 25), CCPA/CPRA, and SOC 2 coordination. It includes privacy initiatives across our mobile applications, backend systems, Shopify, subscription billing, marketing technologies, analytics platforms, customer support tools, and third-party vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage Blue Tees' privacy and compliance roadmap across GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA/CPRA, and SOC 2 initiatives.
• Prioritize compliance initiatives, establish dependencies, and ensure work is completed in the appropriate order.
• Coordinate data inventory, data mapping, Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), privacy policy updates, vendor Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), consent management, DSAR processes, data retention schedules, incident response planning, and privacy disclosures across web and mobile platforms.
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts across Engineering, Product, Operations, Marketing, Legal, and Leadership to ensure compliance initiatives remain on track.
• Hold internal stakeholders accountable for agreed-upon deliverables and timelines while proactively removing blockers.
• Lead recurring compliance working sessions, ensuring the appropriate stakeholders are engaged and action items are completed.
• Maintain accurate, visible tracking of compliance initiatives, milestones, risks, and dependencies.
• Prepare concise executive-level status updates highlighting progress, risks, blockers, and upcoming priorities.
• Exercise sound judgment by recognizing when compliance work should be routed through outside counsel or delayed to avoid creating unnecessary legal exposure.
• Partner with external vendors and compliance partners supporting privacy and security initiatives, including SOC 2 efforts.
• Continuously improve and mature Blue Tees' privacy and compliance program as the business continues to grow internationally.

Qualifications / Requirements

Required

• Proven experience leading a privacy or data protection compliance program from an early or immature state through implementation.
• Practical working knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA, and CCPA/CPRA, with the ability to properly sequence work, identify dependencies, and recognize potential compliance risks.
• Experience determining when work should be managed internally versus escalated to outside legal counsel.
• Strong program or project management experience driving complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience partnering with engineering teams and understanding technical implementation timelines without requiring hands-on software development experience.
• Excellent organizational, communication, stakeholder management, and executive reporting skills.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams, drive accountability, and maintain momentum without direct authority.
• Ability to balance compliance best practices with practical, right-sized execution for a growing technology company.
• Availability to collaborate during U.S. Pacific Time business hours.

Preferred

• CIPM certification strongly preferred.
• CIPP/E and/or CIPP/US certifications.
• Experience coordinating or supporting SOC 2 initiatives.
• Experience in SaaS, consumer technology, e-commerce, mobile applications, connected devices, or IoT environments.
• Experience working in startup or growth-stage organizations.
• Experience using Vanta, Drata or similar. 

Education & Experience

Required

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Several years of experience leading privacy, compliance, governance, or data protection programs.

Preferred

• Additional certifications or specialized training in privacy, compliance, information governance, cybersecurity, or related disciplines.
